Veteran Sire Strikes With Bargain Stakes-Winner
Perth, January 1–Talented Perth galloper Ma Ma Machine bounced back to his best form to score a scintillating three and a half length win in the Listed WATC Summer Scorcher at Ascot on New Year’s Day.
Trained at Lark Hill by Adam Durrant, Ma Ma Machine overcame an outside draw to win the 1000 metre dash as he pleased in the slick time of 57.19 seconds.
The five year-old son of veteran Bletchingly sire Sir Laurence has proven a real money spinner for connections, his overall record now seven wins and 11 placings from 24 starts with prizemoney of $323,390.
Bred by Martin Hawcroft at Byerley Stud, Ma Ma Machine (pictured courtesy www.perthracing.com.au )was sold as a weanling for just $2,500 at the 2005 Inglis Scone Thoroughbred Sale along with his dam Mam’Selle Gina, who has also now found her way to Western Australia.
Ma Ma Machine is the third foal and only winner to date for Mam’selle Gina, a winning half-sister by Naturalism to stakes-winner Cogitate and stakes-placed Rinehart.
Ma Ma Machine is the fifth stakes-winner sired by 24 year-old Sir Laurence, who is now retired from active service at Byerley Stud and is best known as the sire of Group One winner Laurie’s Lottery.
