Millionaire for Nothin’ Leica Dane

Melbourne, September 13 – Byerley Stud’s Nothin’ Leica Dane is the sire of racing’s latest millionaire in outstanding mare Hot Danish, winner of the Group Three STC Research Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Unsuited by heavy tracks in Sydney during the autumn, popular mare Hot Danish was back on her favoured firm footing at Rosehill and despite lumping 61 kilos and a three-wide trip took her earnings over the million dollar mark with a crowd pleasing
win in the 1200 metre sprint for mares.

The Les Bridge trained Hot Danish will now head to Melbourne on a quest to secure that elusive first Group One success.

She has contested five Group One races and all were frustratingly run on heavy tracks.

She was second to Eskimo Queen in last year’s STC Coolmore Classic and was beaten ¾-length by Neroli in the STC Queen Of Turf Stakes at Rosehill earlier this year.

“She can’t sprint on them, they bring her back,” Bridge said.

“We just need them to stay dry and we might get one.”

Bridge said there were no firm plans on the mares immediate future although she will be heeding south at some stage.

“I’m just not sure where we’ll kick off down there yet,” Bridge said adding he was not keen to start in the Manikato Stakes which will be run under lights at Moonee Valley

The six year-old mare improves her overall record to 11 wins and three seconds from 18 starts for earnings of $1,076,530.

The only black-type winner in the family for five generations, Hot Danish was purchased by Bridge for $32,000 from the Holbrook Stud consignment at the 2005 Scone Yearling sale.

Bred by David Parker, Hot Danish is the third live foal of the Zephyr Zip mare Hot 'N' Breezy, a Sydney winner of four races from 12 starts.

Hot Danish is the highest stakes-earner to date sired by Victoria Derby winner Nothin’ Leica Dane, with other superior progeny including Cinque Cento and Utzon.
